Microsoft Authenticator now offers phone sign-in support for all users

It seems that Microsoft Authenticator has added phone sign-in support for each and every Microsoft account. Through the newest feature added to the Microsoft Authenticator apps on Android and iOS we can say that Microsoft is taking a shot at eliminating passwords.

Approving login with a single tap

This latest feature is now rolling out to all Microsoft accounts. Phone sign-in will let you approve a login from device with just a single tap. Once Microsoft Authenticator is enabled for an account, when that specific user tries logging into their Microsoft account, a prompt will be displayed on the phone. Then, they can tap Approve or Deny in response.

This feature will essentially eliminate the need for entering passwords when a user attempts to log in and instead offers physical access to the phone for more security.

Setting things up

• If you are already using the Microsoft Authenticator for your personal Microsoft account, go to your account tile and select the dropdown button. Then, you must choose Enable phone sign-in.
• If you want to add a new account on an Android phone, Microsoft will automatically prompt you in order to set it up.
• If you want to add a new account on an iPhone, Microsoft will automatically set it up for you.

This whole process should prove to be much easier compared with two-step verification. Even if users won’t need a password anymore, in order to log in they will also require a second physical element in the form of a PIN or a fingerprint.

This only applies to the Microsoft Authenticator applications on iOS and Android for now.
